Yorubas Demand CBN Governor's Seat From Jonathan

Yoruba Council of Elders  has called on  President Goodluck Jonathan to compensate the South West with position of the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

This, it said, would make up for the loss of the position of the Speaker, House of Representatives.

According to YCE through its National Treasurer of YCE, Dr. Dejo Raimi, said the president had made the promise to compensate the zone when they visited him in Abuja to complain about alleged marginalisation of the zone in the distribution of political appointments.

Dr. Raimi, said the position of the Yorubas in the current political dispensation was not commensurate with contributions they made towards the emergence of some leaders of government.

He maintained that now that there would be vacancy, the best way the president could redeem his promise “is the position of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor which will become vacant very soon”.

“There are many capable hands of Yoruba extraction both within and out the CBN to take over from the outgoing Governor of the apex bank”.

“The Yorubas are being marginalized and it is glaring to everybody including Mr. President and this informed his promise that he would compensate us with other appointments that would shore up our position among the comity of geo-political zones in the country.

“Time is running out and that is why the YCE is reminding him. It is highly unfortunate that the zone does not feature in the first 10 topmost positions in the country presently and the question to ask is that what offence did we commit as a people?

“As a people, we are not happy that we are being treated like a third class citizen in a country we have put much into in terms of everything”, he complained.
