Ex Commissioner to Gov. Mimiko, Ranti Akerele, Is Dead
A former Commissioner of Information in Ondo State, veteran broadcaster Ranti Akerele is dead. He passed away at his residence in Akure, Ondo State in the early hours of January 14, 2014, Tuesday.
There was no report of the former Commissioner being ill before his sudden demise.
Sources disclosed that Akerele even drove his wife to the First Mercy Hospital in Akure on Monday evening where the wife was placed on admission.
It was gathered after returning from the hospital, he had a prayer meeting with some of his church members.
He was said to have woken up hale and hearty on Tuesday morning, shaved and had his bath before his sudden death.
Unconfirmed report linked the death to heart attack.
The late Akerele’s remains have been deposited at the morgue of First Mercy Hospital, ironically where his wife is still on admission.

Late Ranti Akerele was the first Commissioner of Information under the current Governor, Olusegun Mimiko.
He was also a recipient of several awards, including the Nigeria Media Friends Award organized by CKN Nigeria, among others.
Mr. Ranti Akerele (1st on the right in the picture below) is seen alongside with other recipients of the award, Mike Effiong, Editor Ovation International, Declan Okpaleke, CNN Africa Award winner and current Senator Babafemi Ojudu.
The deceased was also a pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Ondo state.
He was 54 years old and survived by his wife and two sons.
May his soul rest in peace.
