The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa on Wednesday said it has remanded in its custody, a 23-year-old woman, who allegedly dumped her newborn baby in Dutse Local Government.
Mr. Muhammad Gidado, the NSCDC Commandant, told the newsmen that the woman was arrested on Tuesday in Mubi town in Adamawa.
Mr. Gidado revealed that the arrest was made after the corps received intelligence report on the woman’s whereabouts in Adamawa.
The suspect allegedly dumped the baby in Takur Quarters in Dutse Local Government Area of Jogawa and ran away to Mubi town in Adamawa on December 24, 2013.
The commandant said the cruel mother claimed she was impregnated and abandoned by one Abdulrazak Murtala, who lives in Takur Quarters in Dutse.
He noted that the suspect was currently receiving medical attention at the command’s medical unit, “as she is still bleeding due to lack of proper medical care after she gave birth to the baby.”
The abandoned baby boy has been reportedly in good condition and was taken to the Dutse District Head, pending the completion of investigation into the matter.
NSCDC have also launched a manhunt to arrest the suspected father of the baby, saying as soon as investigation was completed, the mother of the baby would be charged to court.
